New Press-Sphere

As I read Jarvis’s blog I thought it was fairly hard to follow. I saw his idea of the press-sphere as a way to have the news link that article to other ones like it. It gives the reader the ability to not only finds other articles that are similar but to fact check what has been written. From what I understood about this article, using witnesses is becoming one of the main ways to write articles. I agree with Jarvis on this because almost every article I have read off of the New York Times has used witnesses as its primary sources. It seems to me that if the writer uses a witness statement they can more easily support what they are saying. A witness statement does not have to be fact checked so for a journalist to spend hours trying to find a source to back their statement is a waste of time if they can get a witness that will agree with what they are saying.
For me this article was very hard to follow. He did not do a good job of making his ideas clear. I had to re-read the article couple of times to finally get an understanding of his argument. Also, his self-drawn pictures were very confusing to me, especially the one about the new press-sphere. In looking at this picture I had no idea what he was getting at. I understood that all the circles are apart of the new press-sphere but it looks they are just randomly placed there. There is really no explanation of the pictures either.
I’m not entirely sure that I got the full understanding of his article from what I did understand, I do agree with him. Jarvis’s new press-sphere did have many important points in it about the idea of the new press-sphere. This idea that so many different sources can influence todays writing because of television and the Internet, which was not possible in the past.

  1. I definitely agree with you that Jeff Jarvis's diagrams of his "press sphere" were confusing and hard to connect to the news today. But I think you also understood that Jarvis was explaining the ever increasing sources, stories and opinions that play off of a single event throughout different media outlets.
